Discount Calculator

A discount calculator finds the price after a percentage is taken off, and how much you save. It also handles an extra discount applied on top, such as 30% off then a further 10%, which works out smaller than adding the percentages together. Every answer shows the multiplier method and is checked a second way.

Applied after the first discount.

How to use the discount calculator

  2. Enter the discount percentage, and an extra discount if there is one.

Formula

Sale=Price×(1−d100)\text{Sale} = \text{Price} \times \left(1 - \frac{d}{100}\right)

Worked example: 25% off 80

  • Original price: 80
  • Discount (%): 25
  • Extra discount (%) (optional):

✓ Answer checked

Sale price=60.00\text{Sale price} = 60.00
You save
20.00
Step-by-step working (2 steps)
  1. First discount Percentage multiplier

    25% off means paying 75%.

    80×0.75=6080 \times 0.75 = 60
  2. Amount saved

    Original price minus sale price.

    80−60=2080 - 60 = 20
Formulas used
Sale=Price×(1−d100)\text{Sale} = \text{Price} \times \left(1 - \frac{d}{100}\right)
How this was checked
  • ✓ Subtracting each discount amount separately gives the same sale price.

Frequently asked questions

What is 25% off 80?

80 × 0.75 = 60, so you save 20.

Is 30% off then 10% off the same as 40% off?

No. The second discount applies to the reduced price, so the total is 37% off.

How do I find the original price from a sale price?

Divide the sale price by the multiplier. If 60 is after 25% off, the original was 60 ÷ 0.75 = 80.
